For the Duke Realty, Briljent, and Lam Research A.L. Certificate Program Graduates, Indianapolis IN, May 2008

Congratulations to YOU! I was honored to spend these three days learning and growing with you. Here are a few reminders as you teach others what they need to know to make positive changes in their jobs and their lives:

1. Take baby steps. Try out one new training tool, and then another, and then another, until you're comfortable with a variety of ways to engage your learners in the learning.

2. Nothing works all the time. If you hit a "bump" with one training tool, try something else. Then try that tool another way and another time, and see if it works then.

3. Be patient with yourself, with others, and with your company. Change takes time. Reward yourself when you use a new instructional strategy you haven't tried before.

4. Educate others. Let them know why you are using these new instructional tools. Better yet, let your learners know why, as well.

5. Learning is messy stuff. So relax, learn, and have fun with it all!

Cheers to you all - MeChelle, Debbie, Mary, Andrea, Lisa, Shannon, Laurie, David, Miriam, and our special Lam friend and humorist, Sabir!

Carry on! Sharon (5-22-08)

Shannon Swango, Medicare Project NGS Trainer from Anthem and Briljent, gave me permission to post her emailed comments to this blog:

"I just wanted you to know that I enjoyed you class so very much! I feel like I learned so much out of it and had a blast! If you offer different classes, I would like to attend. I wanted you to know that every webinair I have seen has something from your training in it. It excites me to see my co-workers run with the training!

I am going over a feedback process where the CSRs (Customer Service Representatives) say what they think of the training we offer, and we have received feedback asking for more interactive things in the training like we have begun to do. They really like it. Thanks Sharon!"

Sabir Majumder, Lam Research Engineer and Technical Trainer, sent these comments via email for this blog:

"It was a total and absolute enjoyment for me to be in the A.L. class in Indianapolis. I am excited with my new-found title 'humorist' although most of my humors were 'dry'!

The A.L. class gave me a sense of never-ending learning in life :^) I am sure going to apply some of the tools provided by you for my own learning while I am going to apply them for teaching. These tools are more important for me because my lectures (woops... rather training) topics are mostly 'boring and dry' for the rest of the world outside Lam and its competitors/customers.

My heart-felt regards to this group of learners and trainers."
